12 Days of Christmas?
by Rob on Dec.18, 2009, under Random (Blog Posts)
Yeah.. Its Christmas time, Every street you walk down now has some Electrical Christmas themed lighting (for me anyway…).
I just wanted to share something interesting I found out while sitting through a boring year gathering in the hall before actual school lessons started. As religious as this blog post will get, I myself being atheist found this specific thing quite interesting…
So by now you probably want to punch me in the face for either talking about Christmas.. or not actually telling what I found out.
Some of you may already know this but heck, you can find out about it all over again;
12 Days of Christmas – An English? Christian Christmas Carol
I think the only things I was specifically interested in was the true meaning of the 1-12 gifts listed in the song, Lets work backwards.
12 Drummers drumming?
Twelve drummers drumming symbolize the 12 points of belief in the Apostles Creed.
11 Pipers piping?
Eleven pipers piping stand for the eleven faithful disciples.
10 Lords a-leaping?
The ten lords a-leaping are the Ten Commandments.
9 Ladies dancing
Nine ladies dancing are the nine fruits of the spirit.
8 Maids a-milking
The eight maids a-milking are the eight beatitudes.
7 Swans a-swimming
Seven swans a-swimming represent the sevenfold gifts of the Spirit.
6 Geese a-laying
The six geese a-laying stand for the six days of creation.
5 GOOOOLDEN RINGS!
The five gold rings recall the Torah (Law) the first five books of the Old Testament.
4 Calling birds
The four calling birds are the four Gospels.
3 French hens
Three French hens stand for faith, hope and love.
2 Turtle doves
The two turtle doves are the Old and New Testaments.
1 Partridge in a pear tree (and a partridge in a pear tree…)
The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus Christ.
Here’s a video of the song if your not familiar with it.
In no way do I intend for this article to preach religion as I am atheist myself, I thought it would be interesting to share with you although I did not go into much depth… However I did provide links that will give you an idea if you so wish to click them.
